New TV News Channel and VideoBlogging

BoingBoing takes note of the increasing visibility of the new TV news channel -- by and for young adults (great way to save on wages and health insurance, eh, guys?) -- being put together by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt. Video blogging is going to be a core competency, it would seem.

CBS News and a 'We the Media' Moment

I did a column on the Bush National Guard memos controversy, discussing the role of the bloggers. You can find it here, with quite a few comments on the matter from readers.

    Understanding the New Political/Media Sphere

In a column on Forbes.com entitled "Bloggers and Blinders," Steve McGookin looks at We the Media in the political context. He raises, among other issues, a key question about the echo-chamber effect: our tendency to visit the sites we agree with, rather than seeking out information and opinion that might change our outlook.

    More Reviews, Coverage

  • Staci Kramer of Online Journalism Review did a long Q&A with me about the book.
  • The Guardian's Hamish Mackintosh also did a Q&A recently.
  • John Ness of Newsweek International has a short but kind mention.
  • The San Antonio Current newspaper says the book shows that Big Media's dominant days "are numbered."

    C-Span Airing Internet Panel

At last week's Progress & Freedom Foundation Aspen meeting I did a panel with James Taranto, who writes the Wall Street Journal's OpinionJournal.com "Best of the Web" blog. The topic was how political operatives are using the Internet, and how regular folks can do the same in their political activities. As I said in the book, I don't agree with him politically, for the most part, but he does write with real style (and is a thoughtful, nice guy in person).

I don't think there's a file of our talk on the Web, but here's the schedule on the C-Span site. Let me know if you see it archived anywhere and I'll point to it. Thanks.

UPDATE: Argghh, they spelled my name wrong on the screen. That's unfortunate.

    Citizens Media, an Example

I talk a lot about low-end tools that create high-quality media. Here's an example: Phil Shapiro's interview with August Trometer, who founded dotmac.info to connect people and communities via creative projects.
